Virtual hands and real-world simulation for a more immersive, precise, and inclusive experience

Our e-Xtinguisher development team has reached a new milestone in the evolution of the fire extinguishing simulator by incorporating visual representation of the user’s hands within the virtual environment. From now on, trainees not only interact with the physical extinguisher and its digital replica but also with their own virtual hands—multiplying control points and achieving a more natural and immersive interaction. In short, physical actions are precisely aligned with digital responses, resulting in a much more intuitive experience.

This advancement was made possible by the technology embedded in the new Meta Quest 3S. However, it was the technical and creative effort of our team that made this integration a reality—developing an interface that synchronizes physical motion with virtual response with high accuracy. This new feature has a particularly significant impact on users with compromised proprioceptive sensitivity—those who have difficulty perceiving the position and movement of their bodies in space without visual cues.

Our instructors and technicians had observed that a small percentage of trainees struggled during fire extinguishing practice due to the absence of a physical reference in the virtual world. The ability to see one’s own hands in the simulator greatly improves spatial awareness, gesture precision, and tactile synchronization, activating key areas of the brain such as the motor cortex, premotor cortex, and somatosensory cortex.

The result: a more immersive, accessible, and realistic experience that enhances both learning outcomes and training effectiveness. With this improvement, e-Xtinguisher continues to lead the way in VR simulation for fire prevention, paving the way for more inclusive and technologically advanced training.

Augmented Reality: Practice in your own environment

In addition to its VR capabilities, e-Xtinguisher also integrates augmented reality (AR) to deliver training directly within the user’s real-world environment.

This feature makes it possible to simulate fires on real objects, such as a trash bin or a printer, located within your actual workplace. Users retain a clear view of their physical surroundings while interacting with a simulated fire, enabling a contextualized and highly realistic experience.

Training in the exact environment where risks may occur enhances learning transfer to real situations, reduces logistical costs, and increases safety awareness in the workplace.
