Fire Safety Training with Augmented Reality
Safe, practical fire extinguisher training with augmented reality. e-Xtinguisher combines digital fire and real extinguisher to meet OHS compliance.
The new augmented reality feature of the e-Xtinguisher kit accelerates fire extinguisher training by 4×
Fire safety training is one of the cornerstones of occupational health and safety. Spanish and European regulations clearly establish that all companies, without exception, must ensure that their employees receive both theoretical and practical fire safety training to know how to react immediately in case of emergency.
This obligation is particularly relevant in high-risk sectors such as the chemical industry, logistics, energy, or healthcare, where a fire can have severe consequences for both people’s safety and business continuity.
At Tesicnor, we have long experience delivering occupational risk prevention training across multiple fields, including traditional fire extinguisher training with real flames, which remains essential in many environments. However, we know there are obvious limitations: it is not always possible to light real fires in certain workplaces, and moving dozens of employees to external facilities means high costs in time and resources.
That is why we developed e-Xtinguisher, a complementary tool that introduces augmented reality into fire safety training, allowing safe practice in the actual workplace environment, with digital fire, a physical extinguisher, and zero risk.
Regulatory requirements
Legislation on occupational risk prevention is explicit.
- The Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention requires employees to receive adequate training, both theoretical and practical.
- Royal Decree 39/1997, which regulates prevention services, states that employers must provide training on emergency measures.
- The Basic Self-Protection Standard – RD 393/2007 requires first response teams and designated staff in self-protection plans to receive practice in the use of fire extinguishers and other fire protection equipment.
The problem arises when applying this regulatory framework to day-to-day business. Many organizations meet the requirement through practices in external fire grounds or controlled drills, which are valid but limited. Staff must be displaced, with the resulting logistics costs and productivity losses; fuel use generates waste and emissions; and most importantly, it is not possible to reproduce a real fire indoors, in offices, warehouses, classrooms, or healthcare centers—precisely where the risk is most likely.
Immersive and safe practice in the actual workplace
The e-Xtinguisher kit solves this difficulty by allowing training to be carried out directly on company premises. With its new augmented reality functionality, the trainer can project digital fire onto real workplace objects. Participants use a physical fire extinguisher that reproduces the handling, pressure, and technique they would apply in a real fire.
The great advantage is that this practice does not require specialized technicians or complex infrastructures. The trainer remains the central figure, guiding the session, instructing participants, correcting mistakes, and validating the exercise. The difference is that now the trainer has a portable, safe, and sustainable tool that enables practical fire extinguisher training in any workspace, without physical limitations or added risks.
This means companies can comply more easily with OHS legislation, reduce costs, and improve the quality of their fire safety training programs.

Proven effectiveness in studies
The PwC UK study on virtual reality training effectiveness (2020), one of the most cited in immersive learning, compared VR programs with traditional classroom training and e-learning.
The results were striking: participants in VR completed training four times faster than in the classroom. Upon completion, they reported a 275% increase in confidence in their ability to apply what they had learned in practice.
The study also showed that emotional connection to the experience was 3.75× higher than in the classroom and 2.3× higher than in e-learning. This is critical: in a fire emergency, emotional memory can make the difference between acting quickly or freezing. Finally, VR participants were four times more focused than those receiving online training.
Applied to fire extinguisher training, these findings confirm that employees do not just receive theoretical instructions but internalize practice in conditions of realism and emotional pressure similar to a real emergency, yet in a safe and controlled environment.
Tradition and innovation combined
At Tesicnor, we continue to offer traditional fire safety training with real flames, indispensable in many sectors. But we now go further with e-Xtinguisher, an innovative tool that enables trainers to conduct safe, immersive practices in any workplace.
This way, companies comply with regulations, cut costs, and enhance the effectiveness of their fire prevention plans.
